The Reaping
Janet was a textile artist for The Reaping, a Warner Bros. film directed by Stephen Hopkins and starring Hilary Swank and David Morrissey.  Portions of the story takes place within the Sudan and within a Louisiana swamp.  The film is scheduled to premiere in 2006.

Doug's Clothes

Doug's clothes, his multiple sets and the stunt multiple sets, ran the gamut.  First, the basic shirts were teched and gently aged while the basic jeans were overdyed and gently aged.  Following the fight in the dirt, the multiple shirts were airbrushed with 'dirt' dye and torn to match; the multiple jeans were hand painted with 'dirt' acrylics to match the original.

Descended upon by hordes of locusts, the multiples, shirts and jeans, had to have matching locust holes.  All this was followed by a dip in the river of blood, struggling up the muddy river bank and a run through the woods.  Even the multiple belts and boots came in for their share of work.

Ben's Vest

Fotunately, Ben's vest, multiples and stunt multiples didn't have to encounter the river of blood but still had perilous times with the locusts.

The vests were aged/lightly distressed and several areas were bleached out.  The vests were then overdyed a warmer second color.  Areas were sprayed with pigments to duplicate the dirt and wear accumulated through years of misuse.

The hungry locusts eventually come across Ben's vest.

Ornaments used for the Sudan scenes

The smaller piece contrasts the original colors for the neckpiece's cowrie shells and glass beads.  Cowrie shell bracelets, metal bracelets, cowrie shell neckpieces, and glass beaded aprons were among the many ornamental pieces Janet aged for the film's scenes set in the Sudan.
