Welcome!

With over 20 years experience in the film, theater and opera fields, Janet Melody has successfully handled a variety of wardrobe positions ranging from production assistant to designer.  Janet can shop, research, dye, distress, silkscreen fabric designs, build jewelry, tailor, alter, fit, set costume,...whatever it takes to get the job done.  1000 cast extras at dawn hold no fears for her.

In addition, Janet creates clothing and costume pieces for clients in the music and Renaissance Faire entertainment fields.  She writes the bi-monthly costuming column, Costumer's Creation, for Renaissance Magazine.  Janet's wearable one-of-a-kind art pieces have been included in several competitions, including the American Craft Council's prestigious 1997 Spotlight Exhibition.

Janet is available for hire for film, theater, and opera productions.  Her current wearable art pieces are available to galleries or for individual sales.

Designing for a production is never easy.  I must take into consideration the production's time period, each character's ethnic and social background as well as each character's action in the script and combine those factors with the production design, director's vision, each actor's concept of his character, the budget, the crew's abilities, and time constraints.  When I work as part of a Wardrobe team, my design background assists in obtaining the results another costume designer wants.

The thrill of taking the printed word and translating it into a walking, talking three-dimensional character is addictive.  I enjoy what I do...whether it is interpreting an entire script, creating a single wearable art piece, dyeing the fabrics for one actress' costume or dirtying the uniforms of the Confederate and Union Armies.
